The Parish Council is in the process of organising a special celebration of the 80th D-Day Anniversary on 6th June 2024, when Allied forces mounted the largest amphibious invasion the world has ever witnessed. In preparing for this event there are many hoops to jump through and red tape to adhere to, so the process is a bit long winded. However, the proposal is to light a beacon along with many thousand of others throughout the country in the evening, along with a good old fashioned fish n chip supper. 6th June has been designated National Fish & Chip day, in recognition of the fishing fleet who kept the country fed through the war.
In addition to participating in the lighting beacons, private households and organisations can commemorate the event by purchasing and lighting a ‘D-Day 80 Lamp Light of Peace’, which can be lit at the same time as the beacons, at 9:15pm on 6th June 2024.
